Really quite remarkable. Zeiss optics were considered the premium glass at any given time in the history of photography. Digital is leaving legends in the pages of history, they are falling left and right.

As exciting as all of this is for those of us waiting for newly developing technology, it gives you pause at the speed of it all. Change is good, but change is happening faster than any of us anticipated. I hope there is a good balance to offset this news.

Carl Zeiss is fortunately not the company going down. I really believe they still make the best glass available. Though I wonder what will happen when Hassleblad downsizes. It just blows me away how much those cameras are new and how much you can get them for used. Lenses as well as any of the accessories.

As an artist, so long as there is still a decent infrastructure to the traditional film et. al., I can see one day going back and creating in much the same way artists who work in the Platinum / Paladium medium are working now. With that process, much more skill was involved in the same way it is with basic film photography.
